Minimising or reversing the extinction of irreplaceable biodiversity is the ultimate goal of conservation biologists.
Many focus on the most threatened species, genes and communities, and employ systematic, evolutionary and ecological science to underpin such endeavours. Others work on threatening processes and their mitigation, such as loss of biodiversity due to habitat destruction, fragmentation of wild areas, dieback disease, invasion by feral animals and weeds, and salinity. This course will prepare you well to help mitigate environmental impacts on biodiversity.
The Graduate Certificate in Science (Conservation Biology) consists of four coursework units.
Students may select from a wide variety of units including Ecology, Global Climate Change and Biodiversity, Conservation Biology: Saving Endangered Species, Wildlife Conservation and Management, Australian Vegetation, Animal Ecology, Genetics and Evolution, Conservation Biology and Restoration Ecology, Project and Risk Management, Management Decision Tools, Case studies in Land and Water Management and Waterway Restoration and Conservation.
