Fotolia_1584422_XS_hydrogeologyHydrogeology involves the study of water beneath the earths surface, in particular groundwater.

It involves the study of the flow and chemical interactions of groundwater within aquifers and requires an understanding of geology, maths, physics, and chemistry. This course will prepare you to deal with groundwater dynamics, exploration, drilling and aquifer tests, sustainable allocation of groundwater, contamination, and computer modelling.

Course outline

By coursework only:
The Graduate Diploma in Science (Hydrogeology) consists of eight coursework units.

By coursework and project:
The Graduate Diploma in Science (Hydrogeology) consists of four coursework units (50%) and a hydrogeology research project (50%).

All students must successfully complete the units Hydrogeology and Advances in Hydrogeology.  Additional units may be selected from a wide variety of units including Earth Surface Processes and Soils, Environmental Hydrology, Land, Soil and Water Systems, How Soils Function, Land and Water: Case Studies in Land and Water Management, Quantitative Environmental Hydrology and Environmental Hydrology Systems Modelling.

Admission requirements

Domestic students

A relevant bachelor's degree from this or another recognised university; or has a completed relevant Graduate Certificate in Science with an average mark of at least 60 per cent, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty.
