Marine biologists study the natural processes affecting organisms in marine and estuarine environments and the human effects on these processes.
Marine Biology encompasses all organisms in the marine world, from microbes to animals, from invertebrates to whales, as well as plants such as seagrasses and seaweeds. This course provides you with knowledge of marine organisms and marine environmental systems and will equip you for a wide range of jobs in marine environmental sciences.
Course outline
The Master of Science (Marine Biology) consists of four coursework units (50%) and a research dissertation (50%).
The coursework component may be selected from a wide variety of units, including Animal Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Field Techniques in Marine Environmental Science, Physical Oceanography, Aquaculture, Marine Ecology, Waterway Restoration and Conservation, Ecosystem Biogeochemistry and Conservation Biology: Saving Endangered Species.

Admission requirements
Domestic students
- A relevant bachelor’s degree with honours of this University, with a weighted average of at least 60 per cent in those units for which the results contribute to the calculation of the honours classification, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty
or
- a relevant bachelor’s degree of this or another recognised university, and
- a relevant Graduate Diploma of this University with an average mark of at least 60 per cent, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty.
