What is Natural Resource Management?
Natural resource management involves resolving conflicts between the use of natural resources and conservation of the environment. As the population of the world increases, more pressure is placed upon our limited natural resources, and there is a strong need for scientists capable of balancing these needs with the need to protect the environment.
What does the course involve?
This course is for anyone working in or seeking employment in any natural resource area, for example:
- environmental science
- marine science
- mining
- agriculture
This is a 72 point course involving 24 points of coursework of your choice (third year level and above; one second year unit allowed) and 48 points of research units. Students will complete a thesis based on their research. The course is one and a half years full time and three years part time.
How will studying this course help my career prospects?
This course is intended for persons employed or seeking employment in the following:
- government departments or agencies responsible for the management of natural resources
- private corporations involved in the development of natural resources
- private consultants involved in restoration, conservation, or management of natural resources and the environment
Completing the MSc in Natural Resource Management will greatly improve your chances of professional advancement, as well as make you eligible for employment in higher-level management roles not available to applicants without such educational experience.
