My dream to work in marine science is now a reality following completion of my honours degree in marine science.

My fascination with the ocean began at an early age when my family travelled to the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland on holidays.

I felt an immediate attraction to the area and a desire to become involved with the conservation of marine environments.

I now work for the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences as a research officer and will begin a Ph.D in marine science soon. The marine science degree has a great deal of flexibility. It’s possible to mix and match units to gain skills in marine ecology right through to marine engineering.

My research was recently awarded first place in a national science competition, when I used computer models to simulate broad-scale sea grass growth and reproduction and link these processes to changes in seagrass distribution in Cockburn Sound.
