Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences

Jesse Cochrane

When I did my postgraduate studies at UWA it was the only university in WA that offered Science Communication.

I am really passionate about science and I think it is becoming more and more important to have good communicators who are able to communicate and facilitate understanding among the general public.

After studying I worked part time at Perth Zoo and Supply West Bookland, but I also kept up my volunteering with various organisations such as Scitech and with Friends of the Western Swamp Tortoise; I was fortunate that the position at the Conservation Council came up not long after I finished studying, and with my skills and experience I felt that I was more than qualified to apply.

My role is to liaise with, and provide advice and support to, the Council's affiliated groups, who are largely volunteer based community conservation groups who work on on-ground conservation projects across WA.
