BSc Animal Science
Equine research
I was able to turn my love of horses into a career after completing an Animal Science degree.
After seeing a newspaper article describing the degree, I knew it was what I wanted to do. All aspects of animal science are covered from farm animals through to the management of endangered species.
I would love to do a placement at the Kentucky Equine Research Centre in America to pursue research in horse nutrition and management.
Laboratory and field work are an important part of the Animal Science degree and complement the theory learned in lectures. The practical side of the degree was wonderful – we did everything from surveying the distribution of native animals in the wild to investigating what increases wool growth in sheep to determining the social hierarchy of a herd of mares.
