Kim Atherley

After completing my degree, an interest in people and rural issues led me  to examine the impact of rural population decline on the vibrancy and importance of sporting clubs in country towns.

I found that sport remains incredibly important in rural areas despite the drop in population of these areas in recent years.

Sport supports the social fabric of a community and people are willing to volunteer a lot of time and money to ensure a sporting club survives.

Kim is keen to pursue her research with a Ph.D but is now equally qualified to pursue a career in teaching, regional or urban planning and development, environmental research or geopolitics.

At UWA, I valued the opportunity to learn from experts in the geography field during her degree. Field work during my degree provided on-the-ground practical experience that complemented the theory learned in lectures.
