The most important thing I learnt at UWA was the ability to communicate.
How to research a subject, analyse it, understand it and report on it are important tools in science communication and working strategically.
They are skills I now use. I arrived at Scitech after a career that has involved teaching, customer service, and business and project development. I joined as the project manager for exhibition construction, before moving into an executive role and into my position as Director of Science Education.
Changes in career just happen sometimes and you need to be equipped to handle that change. In retrospect, my university studies showed me a way of thinking and that I had the ability to learn. This ability has opened doors for me during my career and has provided me with the confidence to change jobs when I have needed or wanted to.
