Peter Junk

BSc (Hons.) 1st Class; PhD (Phys & Inorganic Chemistry)
Associate Professor
School of Chemistry
Monash University

It was only after starting my Honours year that things fell into place.

The skills I gained during my postgraduate studies have been invaluable, including a lot of personal advice I received from several of the Chemistry professors.

I've had an interesting and varied career since graduating with a PhD. I've worked as a Research Chemist in private enterprise, and held positions at several universities, including the University of Alabama. I returned to Monash University as a Senior Lecturer in 2001, having been a postdoctoral Fellow here between 1995 and 1997. I was promoted to Associate Professor in 2004.

My position is an extremely busy one, but I wouldn't swap it for any other. It gives me the freedom to research whatever I want, so long as I can acquire the funding, and the teaching aspect is also very rewarding. My job also allows me to travel quite a lot attending conferences and meetings - something most people do not realise as an attribute of a chemist!
