BSc Land and Water Management

A desire to make a practical contribution to environmental issues led me to enrol in the Land and Water degree.

I have been really impressed by the practical nature of the units offered. Every unit incorporates laboratory or field work and enables you to tackle real life environmental problems.

Issues covered during the three-year degree are current and cutting edge. In our third year we undertook a group project in which we assessed how a wetland functioned. The degree teaches you to tackle environmental problems analytically and provides you with the practical skills to put environmental plans into action.

I am off to East Timor to become involved in a large environmental aid project to determine the agricultural potential of the country’s soils. We will be involved in mapping the geology and assessing the soils of a large valley region that has the potential to be highly productive for the East Timor people.

Some of my fellow graduates have found employment as environmental officers with mining and chemical companies and with water authorities, the CSIRO, Department of Agriculture and Food, and primary industries.
