BSc Agriculture (2nd Cl Hons)
Agronomist
Combined Agronomic Services

I started my Agricultural degree thinking that I would be an agronomist, although not knowing much about what an agronomist was or exactly what it involved.

However, it became clearer that that was in fact the path I wanted to follow and I am now an agronomist for a small private consulting company. I get to cover a large area in the southern agricultural region of Western Australia.

I work with farmers throughout the entirety of their operations, from the planning to the harvesting, which means we can work proactively, not reactively.

When you can see how your forward planning gives results not only in the immediate year, but in following years. It is also a great feeling when a client makes you feel like an integral part of their operation.

I have to do a lot of public speaking and presentations so the skills learned at UWA in this area are invaluable.

The Agricultural Science degree at UWA also touched on a very broad range of situations that I am now seeing out in the paddock, so having knowledge of the theory behind the reality is extremely beneficial.
